Chapter 137: Achivement

Noah was quiet while watching the Boss he found in one of the caves in which Terrence saw an irregularity. As much as he had a time limit, he still spent a few seconds watching the Boss before attacking. In Noah's view, it was better to still lose statistical points than to die by carelessness, even if the chance of this Boss being able to kill him was low. Still, Noah decided to be careful.

As his energy was overloaded, Noah summoned a [Fire Dagger] in each hand and took advantage of the silence of the place, which kept the Boss calm and off guard, allowing Noah to silently throw his daggers made of plasma and gases.

Unfortunately, Noah was not as good at throwing daggers as he was in using hand-to-hand combat, but he still managed to land both daggers, even if it was only in not-so-lethal places, one being the one that hit the rib of the Boss, while the other hit the butt of the big monster that had its back turned to him.

Just like what Noah heard from the description he read on the internet, this Boss looked very similar to the other monsters of the Fortress, the only way to differentiate him from others was that his hair, instead of being a little grayed out like the others, his was truly white, as if it was cleaned all the time.

The two daggers dug into the boss's skin, who cried out in pain and hatred as he turned around to look for whoever had done that, but when the boss's gaze moved to Noah, the only thing he saw was an explosion of flames, which left the Boss in doubt about what it was.

Unfortunately, he only felt the heat next to him when it was too late, so when he turned around to look for what that warm feeling was, what he found was a fire dagger being thrust into his stomach, but finally enabling him to see who his enemy was who was making such quick and cruel attacks.

But the only thing he could do was see, because before he thought of attacking, this disgusting human who was attacking him in such dishonest ways, the human burst into flames again.

But the Boss was not an inferior monster at all, his intelligence was superior to that of the other monsters by a large margin. Even though he was the Boss of a low-level Fortress, that didn't mean he was less intelligent than Terrence, who was a young Boss monster from a Rank E Fortress, although Terrence's intelligence was being developed much faster than any other Boss as he grew up in an environment that provided the basis for him to develop his intelligence.

Seeing the explosion again, the Boss quickly understood that this was the human's means of getting around, which could mean that the human was now behind him again, with another dagger, preparing to attack.

The heat that the Boss felt in his back was the concrete proof that this was true. So, ignoring the pain he felt from the already 3 stuck daggers that were burning his skin and some of his muscles, in addition to the cuts that they had made, the Boss struggled to turn around, already with his mouth open to bite this human's head. Even if it meant that the human would be able to stick another dagger in him, in the Boss's mind this was a movement that would be worthwhile, after all, he would kill the human with an attack.

But when the Boss turned around, what he saw made him momentarily stunned. The human was actually facing away from him, apparently holding the dagger in a position indicating that he was going to stab the wind.

In the Boss's mind it didn't make any sense, but taking advantage of the human's back being to him, the Boss accelerated and tried to bite the human's head off, but only to feel a little of the flames that appeared in the human's teleportation, making his mouth burn. But before he could scream with the pain of having his mouth burned, he immediately felt the pain of another knife being thrust into him, but this time going directly into his mouth, preventing any scream from leaving it.

The only thing he could think about was how the human had hit him so quickly. He had killed some humans before, and they were all very weak. This had developed a sense of superiority in the Boss, making him believe that because he was the strongest of the albino ferrets, he would also be stronger than any human.

But unfortunately for him, the reality proved otherwise. The human did not give him a single opportunity to counterattack, further increasing the Boss's frustration. And to finish it all, the pain that the Boss felt grew at least 400% at that moment. Because Noah had ordered the daggers to stop absorbing energy from the monster's body to support themselves, it caused the 4 daggers to disappear and leave the wound open and bleeding, only to be burned by the expanding fire.

Noah had discovered this when he studied combat before receiving the Blessing. A stab could be very dangerous, but if the person were stabbed and kept the knife in the body, it would be much safer for them and the person would possibly be able to stay alive longer, but when that knife was pulled out, the wound would start to bleed even more, in addition to the internal organs being a little shaken.

If a stab like this was already so dangerous, one could easily imagine 4 daggers made with the flames of hell burning both the flesh and the soul of the monster would be excruciating. When the four daggers disappeared, instead of the Boss feeling relieved, the pain increased even more, further increasing the energy supply for the flames that only grew every second, completely engulfing the Boss in flames, without even being able to scream, having a silent death.

Terrence, who had been instructed by Noah to sit at a distance watching the battle take place to learn from the development that was happening there, couldn't help but swallow, thinking about what he could even do to try to get around someone as troubled as Noah.

But as much as the developing brain of the "little" bird tried its best to find an answer to this problem, unfortunately it could not find anything. He could not even participate in the battle, since he had no skills or anything like, with his strength still weak because of his young age. Trying to help would just bring unnecessary risks for low profits because of how little Terrence would be useful.

His brain was already developing a lot watching the battle. In addition to gaining a little knowledge about how a real battle worked, Terrence was trying to think of strategies, which stimulated his brain to grow and improve.

That was exactly what Noah wanted. Terrence was a bird, a monster that would always be on top, having a vision that others would hardly have. And Noah wanted Terrence to be smart enough to handle that information and turn it into something useful for himself through the mental link they had.

Currently, Terrence was like a small child who had been placed in front of a 3-monitor computer that broadcast 3 different basketball games. The child could understand a little of what was happening in the three games, but could not get the essentials of each game to tell their father.

What Noah wanted was to transform Terrence from this small child, who didn't understand basketball on the 3 monitors, into an adult who could use 6 monitors for the traffic cameras in various locations in the city and find the best way to improve traffic flow based on all information that he was receiving simultaneously.

Noah knew this analogy sucked, and if he were to sit down and explain it to someone else it would probably make less sense than it did in his head, but as he didn't need to explain it to anyone else, it didn't matter.

While the Boss's corpse was turning to ash while being burned, Noah looked at the status window and realized that he currently had more than 800 exp points, which meant that only the Boss alone had earned him 400 exp points…… a lot more than he would receive when he invaded a Fortress with the complete group.

Between his two animals, Lilith had 353/1000 exp points to reach level 03, while Terrence had just been notified that he had leveled up and unlocked his innate ability.

  [User: Terrence

  Title: Lucifer's Descendant's Companion

  Level: 02, 146/1000 exp

  HP: 11/11

  Strength: 9

  Agility: 17

  Skills:

(Excessive Anger Lv 01 0/1000: Angry Birds are animals characterized by the large amount of fury they possessed, but the user was raised in an environment that did not provide anything that could stimulate this rampant rage, making the user able to control the anger itself.

Effect: The user can activate the ability and be angry, or when being angry naturally all stats will be increased by 30%. If anger is artificially increased through the skill, energy will be consumed to maintain that anger.)]

Noah hardly needed to look at the ability to know it was related to anger, since as soon as the notification appeared, Terrence had already started screaming frantically and flying at a much higher speed than he could before. But as he was Noah's companion and friend, Terrence's anger was directed at the corpse of the boss which had just finished being burned, causing him to fly towards the burning corpse, and without thinking about the consequences, to bite off a piece of meat, still on fire, and swallow.

The pain of swallowing that burning piece of meat made Terrence wake up from the excessive anger and look at the burning meat in fright.

"Pffftt hahahahaha…… Oh my god, Terrence, how many times have I told you not to attack anything that has my flame on it? Damn…… your scared face was very good." Noah gave a happy laugh.

As much as Noah somewhat liked and trusted the elite raid group to which he belonged, the kind of moments where he laughed from the heart without worrying about hiding his emotions only happened when he was with Maggy, Carlos, Lilith, or Terrence, who were those whom he currently really considered as his own family.

Terrence, of course, was not happy that Noah had laughed at him and started flying towards Noah, wanting to peck Noah's head and pluck some of his black hair, which made Noah start running away from the bird that fortunately had not activated the ability of [Excessive Anger].

This continued until another notification appeared in front of Noah as soon as the Boss's corpse was completely burned ad he was still running from Terrence.

[Achievement gained. Congratulations user, for completing your first Fortress alone, with only your companions. Reward: 1,000 exp.]
