A few days after, the results of the investigation on Zhu Lin’s case were concluded as suicide. Besides, he was also under the influence of drugs when he sneaked in. It was also discovered that it was one of their relatives who had connections within the military that helped him sneak inside so the military filed a case against that person and had him pay fines in return.

The Zhu family was silent all throughout and complied with everything, clearly showing their stance that they didn’t want to make this issue any bigger. Zhu Lin’s parents even met with her father. She didn’t bother to ask the context of that meeting but a few days later, she heard how the Zhu family lost a very important investment that they’ve been eyeing on for a few months.

And that mention investment was suddenly found on Lu Shao’s table, much to Xiu Mei’s surprise.

She actually looked disapprovingly at that file and glared at the direction of the President’s office. She was honestly appreciative of what her husband is doing but to think he grabbed another project, won’t the employees soon protest in front of their building soon ah?

Okay, she’s straying from the topic.

Xiu Gu Ren wasn’t satisfied with the results of the investigation after Lu Chen discussed with them their suspicions on Zhu Lin’s death. They didn’t have any evidence to prove that Zhu Lin’s suicide was foul play, but it indeed arose suspicions considering the countless targeting of her life in a span of one year.

Lu Chen handled this matter swiftly. Zhu Lin wasn’t as careful as Wan Wan and Yu Ming Xi. His life revolved around women, bars, and secret gatherings for the socialites. They immediately knew who he interacted with and everything that he did before Zhu Lin died.

"It was Xiu Su Yi." Lu Shao briefed the two of them in the President’s office.

"He first contacted Zhu Lin three months ago in a private auction in Australia then they met again in the Rose Hill Club three weeks after. Since Zhu Lin usually hung out with escorts we were able to find out the contents of what they discussed."

Then he handed over a pile of papers to Lu Chen. He didn’t skim over the papers and continued listening to Lu Shao’s report.

"They briefly talked about some kind of project and then some investments. Zhu Lin’s investments flunked and he got into debt so he borrowed money from his family but instead of paying for it, they started hanging out in the casino. Zhu Lin’s debt grew but the Zhu family didn’t give him any money so he started taking out loans from Xiu Su Yi."

Xiu Mei: "……" Is he stupid?

As Xiu Mei continued listening to Lu Shao’s report, the more she found Zhu Lin ridiculous. She sighed in disappointment about the fact that in their social circle, eight percent has the brains to survive while the rest are basically socialites with no brains because they only leech off from their family, then when they start to play with stocks and investments, it becomes the start of their downfall.

She had witnessed a lot of people who fell from grace and got seriously ridiculed that they didn’t appear again. Some moved abroad while some just disappeared like a ghost.

"So it was Xiu Su Yi who ordered Zhu Lin to do something to my wife."

"As it seems, Sir. However, we still couldn’t confirm if Zhu Lin was with someone when he snuck into the military hospital. About the drugs, it was bought in the black market and Xiu Su Yi provided."

  "Did you trace it back?"

"We did. But it was nothing significant."

  "Anything else?"

Lu Shao continued and handed over another folder to Lu Chen.

"Regarding the possible mole that Ying Wan Wan planted within the company, we haven’t reached any conclusion to whom she was communicating with. We’ve already hacked her phone and emails, even pressed her during the questioning but she refused to open her mouth."

  "What about a different phone?"

"Nothing was found in the Ying Mansion nor where we caught Ying Wan Wan in the underground city."

"What about the employees involved during the incident? Maybe we missed someone or a friend of a friend of Wan Wan provided the information." Xiu Mei chimed in.

"Nothing turned up as well. Ying Wan Was had so many friends and connections that she developed when she stayed abroad so she was also pretty popular when she returned to the country."

Xiu Mei was surprised. Ying Wan Wan was? How come she didn’t know at all?

Did she miss so many social gatherings that she wasn’t as up-to-date with the news at all?

She would’ve surely known if Wan Wan was quite active in attending the gatherings since Kei is pretty active in participation about that and her other friends as well.

"How long had she been here? I wasn’t aware that she was quite popular in the social circle."

"She returned just recently. But Ying Wan Wan didn’t attend the gatherings that Madame often attended. It was mostly gatherings in the clubs and outings abroad that she went with people."

  For real?

She didn’t even catch wind of Ying Wan Wan’s name at all?

Well, it’s not like Kei and her friends actually know Wan Wan’s involvement with her at all. So they probably didn’t think too much when they met her during the events.

While she picked up her phone and briefly texted her male best friend and group of girl friends, Lu Shao continued his progress report as Lu Chen’s personal secretary. Afterward, Xiu Mei picked up her own set of folders to report to the President as the Lu Corporation’s Main Secretary.

"These are the progress reports for all the projects for the past two months. Different department managers will present the progress report tomorrow at our monthly meeting. For the investigation cases, including the case, Lu Shao handled for the company-wide clean-up, we still have a few people on the list that looks suspicious but we couldn’t find any evidence that they’re doing something under the table as of now so we couldn’t fire them unless they submit the resignation in their own."

"Are they being surveilled until now?"

"Yes, they are as of the moment. We don’t entirely follow their movements on the outside but we are watching out if they’re interacting with suspicious people."

  "What about the ongoing negotiations?"

"All of them are proceeding smoothly without any complicated issues. The approaching product launching will be discussed by the assigned marketing team tomorrow during the meeting as well."

"Good. Any operational or back-end issues?"

Xiu Mei stopped for a second to ponder if there were anything significant.

"Nothing too serious as of the moment. However, I did notice something strange regarding the stock movements for the past month. It didn’t have too much effect on us at the moment but I think someone is beginning a stock manipulation at the moment. It wasn’t very noticeable, but it was very similar to the stock manipulation case in America three years ago."

Then she handed another folder to him containing her assistant’s research and data for that specific stock market manipulation case.

"The culprit for the previous case in America was caught, but it seems like someone is trying to do a similar market in the Chinese Stock Market. It’s not completely similar though, since this time that person is moving too intelligently in playing with his investments. The movements were too subtle to notice and it just happened that I was eyeing on some small companies that had potential but they suddenly closed down for bankruptcy without any news or issues as to why they suddenly closed down."

Lu Chen opened the folder and briefly observed the charts and tables containing the stock movements for the past year in the Chinese stock market. He glanced at his wife and was very satisfied with her work.

He really didn’t choose wrong when deciding for his corporate secretary. Xiu Mei still has room for improvement when it comes to negotiations but her eye for details and movements are very top-notch.

"Any effect on us at the moment?"

"As of now, zero percent. But I suspect we’ll see more obvious effects in half a year if this continues."

"Okay. Closely watch over the other side’s movements. Investigate whether others have noticed it as well and it would be better to find out the mastermind behind this issue."

  "I understand."
