Lu Chen listened in earnest to Doctor Lee’s reminders. When he returned to Xiu Mei’s room, Lu Qiang was already inside the room accompanying his mother. It seems like they were playing some kind of game with their tablets and both mother and son duo seem to be enjoying it.

At first, Lu Chen wanted to convince Xiu Mei to take a short break in working first. With her current situation, it would prove difficult for her to do her work normally but recalling Doctor Lee’s reminders, Xiu Mei may not look like it right now but she would surely become more sensitive the moment she realizes that she won’t be able to do her usual work at all.

And if she becomes sensitive, her emotions become more unstable and who knows whether she would suddenly get another PTSD attack if that happens.

Lu Chen took a deep sigh in worry. Since Xiu Mei was the stubborn type, she would surely try to do something just to be able to do proper work again. She’ll surely stress herself out until her body gives in. She’s that kind of person.

Thankfully, work seemed to be the last thing on her mind since she wasn’t asking anything about her work at all, nor at the other stuff she had been doing before she left for City S.

He wondered. How should he talk to her about her work arrangements?

If she really wants to work, he would preferably have her work at home instead of working in the office.

After thinking for a few seconds, he shrugged off his thoughts and entered the room. He’ll just bring it up once Xiu Mei’s already ready.

"Are you hungry?" Lu Chen softly asked Xiu Mei whose face was lowered while looking at her tablet. Her fingers were moving swiftly over the screen.

"Wife, are you hungry?" He repeated. This time, he bent down his body and leaned closer to her ear, breaking Xiu Mei’s conversation.

Startled, Xiu Mei flinched and raised her head too look at the person who whispered beside her ear. She blinked in confusion. Clearly, she didn’t hear what he said at all. Lu Chen patiently repeated his question.

  "Are you hungry?"

Xiu Mei glanced at the time and saw it was already almost lunch. She also looked at Lu Qiang who was still playing on his tablet. She returned her gaze to her husband and nodded as an answer to his question.

Lu Chen smiled. "Then I’ll order heat up the porridge that Grandmother brought yesterday. I’ll ask the nurses later if it’s already okay for you to eat solid food for dinner."

He pressed a light kiss on her temple before pulling away. Then he placed his hand on his son’s head to get his attention.

"Stay with your mother." He reminded. Then he left to go to the kitchen room that was on the other side of the wall. Xiu Mei wanted to laugh at him.

’What was that?’ is what Xiu Mei thought. He’s overreacting ah. It’s not like he’s going somewhere far at all. It’s just literally a few steps away from her room.

Xiu Mei stayed for a full week in the military hospital to nourish herself properly. Since her body got weaker because she could only intake liquid vitamins while she was asleep for 2 months, it took her a while to gain her energy back especially after lying down for that long. A good example was when she couldn’t even stand up straight without leaning over any object back when she just newly woke up.

Xiu Mei stopped in her tracks as soon as she entered her room. She remembered how she left her things before she left for City S and it was slightly different than what she remembered.

Beside her baby blue pillows and duvet on the bed, the black fluffy pillow really stood out like a sore thumb there.

And then on her open-glass wardrobe that was placed outside of her walk-in, she noticed that it wasn’t just her clothes that were hanging there at all. A very familiar set of suits hung quietly taking half of her space.

She marveled at the strange and unfamiliar sight. She suddenly felt as if something was tickling her heart.

"Mom, aren’t you going to go in?" Lu Qiang who was carrying in his workbooks asked when he saw his mother still standing by the door of her room.

Xiu Mei almost jumped in surprise at his voice. She was staring in a trance at the newly added stuff in her room that she hadn’t even taken a single step after opening the door.

She glanced at her son whose frows furrowed in confusion while gazing curiously at her.

She swallowed her saliva and hastily strode towards the bed. She looked at Lu Qiang again who shrugged and walked over towards the nearest table and placed her workbooks there. And then he picked up 2 workbooks and approached the bed.

He calmly climbed on the bed and laid down on the bed and started doing his workbooks. Xiu Mei peeked over his shoulder while writing down some words on her tablet from time to time.

Meanwhile, Lu Chen was busy receiving Lu Shao’s report in preparation for his return to the company the day after tomorrow.

Because of the couple’s absences in the company, Lu Shao and Xiu Mei’s assistant had to take over their duties temporarily. A lot of the directors and board people didn’t look favorably at Lu Chen’s actions so they complained about it in their meeting. Some people are having some bad thoughts about Lu Chen’s absence and started trying to gain favors with some higher-ups.

Unfortunately for them, the one they’re against is Lu Chen, leader of the first and most dangerous assassin organization and the chief of the underworld, hence their attempts were futile. Some were punished heavily and some were suspended in their positions.

"As of the moment, no one is trying to attempt anything at all." Lu Shao uttered.

"Good. Then what about the other thing that I wanted you to monitor about?" Lu Chen replied, his eyes still focused on the doc.u.ments in front of him.

Lu Shao placed another folder in front of Lu Chen containing the report he asked about. He opened his mouth to give a brief summary of what he wanted to know.

"Just like you suspected, Yu Ming Xi didn’t ignore what Ying Wan Wan did about the data leak. I received a report last week that three of the Ying family-owned restaurants are receiving big backlash in relation to their issue of restaurant food quality control. All of those restaurants are located in different cities, with one in a different country as well. We’ve already confirmed that someone tipped off the Asian Quality and Inspection Bureau so they made their moves."

Lu Chen’s eyes became cold as he revealed a mocking smile on his face. He sneered at the misfortune that dropped upon the Ying family because of Ying Wan Wan’s actions.

"It seems like she has a lot of reasons right now to hide from the public. With Yu Ming Xi hot on her feet, she definitely won’t dare to move carelessly just like what she did back then. Do we still not know how she knew about the data leak issue?"

"Unfortunately, not yet. According to our intel, Ying Wan Wan doesn’t let any strangers go in her parents’ and her room’s floor. However, he did discover that there could possibly be a different entrance at that side of the house because he saw Ying Wan Wan leaving the house without using the front door and back door."

"Then tell him to keep monitoring the family’s movements and report back again if he discovers something."

  "Copy that."

After their dinner that night, Xiu Mei accompanied Lu Qiang back to his room. Both stood in front of his opened wardrobe. Lu Chen watched the two of them in amus.e.m.e.nt while Xiu Mei pulled out several clothes, placing it in front of Lu Qiang before hanging it back on the wardrobe.

"Mom, wouldn’t it be fine to just wear my usual clothes for school?" Lu Qiang asked as he watched his mother go through every piece of his clothes. Seeing that small mountain of clothes on his bed, he suddenly dreaded if his mother tells him to go and fit all of them for her to see.

He glanced at the clothes again and gulped nervously. This was more than double of the clothes he had to try on back when they were shopping for clothes.

Xiu Mei paused to write on her tablet. She held it up and raised her eyebrows to her son.

’You missed your first day of school. This is to create a good impression on your classmates tomorrow when you introduce yourself.’ is what she wrote.

Lu Qiang scratched his cheek after reading it.
