Xiu Mei heaved in annoyance as she did her best to fiercely glare at Lu Chen. Contrary to her intentions, Lu Chen found her reaction cuter instead of intimidating. Still, he couldn’t ignore his secretary’s paler skin due to the blood loss she suffered from along with the exhaustion apparent from her face.

Lu Chen remembered how he first saw Xiu Mei on that bas.e.m.e.nt parking lot.

Xiu Mei was on her back, lying on the ground. Slowly, blood pooled around her head and when he saw that, he almost had a heart attack from fright. Ignoring all the gunshots behind him, his mind and body solely focused on the figure lying on the ground.

He saw she was being surrounded by three other guys and another man who looked like he was protecting her.

Lu Chen immediately disarmed one of the guys the moment he reached where she was. He directly grabbed the man’s hand holding the gun and twisted it. Putting on enough strength to crush his phalange, the man let out a cry in a pain.

Sensing another attack from behind him, Lu Chen pulled the man forward and placing him in front as he snatched the gun and shot at the person who was taking aim at him.

Lu Chen shot the man on the head, instantly killing him but his eyes didn’t waver at all as if he was used to it. Surrounding his arm around the man’s head beside him, he twisted it instantly snapping the cervical spine which quickly robbed the man his last breath.

After defeating the two men down, he also saw the other one on the ground seemingly not breathing at all.

He returned his attention towards Xiu Mei, who completely blacked out on the ground.

"Xiu Mei!" He cried out. "Bring the car here, right now!"

He yelled out, ordering his other men that weren’t chasing down the opposite party who started the shootout.

Lu Chen pressed his fingers on Xiu Mei’s neck to check for her pulse, and the breath he was holding lightened up a bit after he felt the rhythmic pattern of the pulse under Xiu Mei’s skin. Seeing the pool of blood up close, he lost his composure in a second as he fought off the urge to carry Xiu Mei on his arms to just run to his car.

He couldn’t be rash as he didn’t know how bad Xiu Mei’s injury was. If anything, it might cause her more damage instead of saving her thus he had to wait for the first aid supplies stored in his car before moving Xiu Mei from the ground.

Half an hour later, he brought Xiu Mei to the hospital and Tang Li was already waiting there fully prepared for the needed immediate treatment for Xiu Mei.

Blood covered his upper clothes and for a neat freak like Lu Chen, he would’ve normally changed out of his current clothes after getting it dirtied that much.

But right now, Lu Chen’s composure was nowhere to be seen with his mind in a complete mess. He couldn’t forget Xiu Mei’s face that was turning white and they didn’t know how afraid he was at that moment.

All he could think about was for Xiu Mei to be stable, while his other thoughts are to immediately chase down the culprit behind the attempted kidnapping and torture that person to give him a slow and painful death.

Lu Chen stood stiffly outside the operating room, his gaze glued on the glaring red LED light as if he shouldn’t look away from it any second else, something might happen.

He stood there like a statue, his face full of frost as he exuded a frightening aura keeping away the nurses and other people from his area. All he knew was that he chanted Xiu Mei’s name on his mind for how many times that time.

Another half an hour later, Xiu Mei’s family members were rushing towards the door of the operating room before they were stopped by the nurses keeping them away from getting inside.

He glanced at them for a quick second and saw how Mr.Xiu supported Mrs.Xiu whose legs seemed to have given up as he tightly clung to her husband. He also saw Xiu Mei’s second brother’s hand turned into a fist as he stopped himself from punching the wall beside him.

It must’ve been her second brother who relayed the news about Xiu Mei’s situation since he knew that the person protecting Xiu Mei awhile ago was one of the people assigned by her brothers to protect Xiu Mei.

He didn’t bother comforting them at that moment and completely ignored their presence.

Lu Chen returned his gaze on the red light waiting for them to turn green.

It was only after two hours later when his hanging heart was finally put down after Tang Li confirmed that Xiu Mei was now out of danger. However, since it was a head injury, Xiu Mei needed to be put under observation for quite a few days to see if there are any other negative effects caused by it.

Her family quickly arranged for Xiu Mei to be moved to the VIP room after the anesthesia wore off in the ICU. He stood at her bedside, watching her sleeping figure. No one knows what he was thinking about at all or how deep he was in his thoughts at that moment.

Surely, something dark was brewing within those eyes as his gaze rested on the bandage wrapped around Xiu Mei’s head.

A few minutes later, he turned around and gave a quick gesture at Xiu Mei’s parents sitting on the sofa to let them know he was temporarily leaving the room. He ignored Xiu Mei’s second brother’s glare as he continued exiting the room.

"I want the plan done in an hour." Lu Chen coldly and strictly ordered to Lu Shao as he looked at the empty hallways. Lu Shao understood what he meant and nodded.

"Pick up the young master and bring him here." Lu Chen added before he turned around and walked in the opposite direction. He pulled out an unfamiliar phone from his b.r.e.a.s.t pocket and locked himself in inside in one of the empty rooms to make a call.
