Chapter 143 - Exorbitant Compensation

Yun Xiangxiang was a minor character in both her lives. She didn’t understand why pride needed to be preserved through this way.

Judging by the economic prowess of Song Mian and Lucifer, neither side would flinch even if the ante was in the hundreds of millions.

Since raising it or not wouldn’t hurt the other side, then why should they fight over it?

The consequence of this kind of fight was Yun Xiangxiang being in the center of the limelight. This kind of gold coin would then see a soar in value!

Yun Xiangxiang would rather lose this kind of limelight than to give the evil capitalistic collectors an advantage.

Not fighting didn’t mean that they didn’t have the strength. It didn’t mean that they were afraid either. It just meant that this was below them.

Not many people in the hall knew Song Mian. However, lots of them knew Lucifer. Almost nobody dared to snatch anything from him.

Anything that Lucifer bidded was sold in a single announcement throughout the whole auction.

Song Mian didn’t put anything up for auction. He only bidded a collector’s item for show in the end.

The charity gala ended successfully. Yun Xiangxing still got to know a lot of people. Lots of them were the decision makers for luxury brands of different nations.

Those who were interested in her all greeted her. Even though they did not leave any contact information, Yun Xiangxiang was already happy enough.

Everything needed to start somewhere. Once someone started following her, that meant there might be an ‘after that.’

The dinner’s pioneer sent Song Mian off himself. He looked at Yun Xiangxiang and praised, “You two look good together.”

“Thank you. I think so too,” Song Mian turned his head aside. His gentle gaze fell upon Yun Xiangxiang.

Yun Xiangxiang stood graciously at Song Mian’s side. She said nothing and just kept smiling.

Song Mian made some small talk with him before waving him goodbye.

“King.” Their car came over. Lucifer’s voice spoke from behind them when they had just walked down the staircase and were in front of their car.

Song Mian didn’t look back. He opened the door for Yun Xiangxiang, “It’s cold outside. Wait for me inside the car.”

New York City’s weather in January was really freezing. Yun Xiangxiang wasn’t wearing anything too thick. There was a heater inside the car. She still shivered even when she was wearing Song Mian’s coat when she was outside.

She immediately felt warm once she got into the car. He Wei who was sitting in the passenger seat earlier said, “Austin invited us to his company tomorrow.”

“When will it be?” Yun Xiangxiang asked.

She promised Song Mian to return to the country with him tomorrow. She and He Wei would hitch a ride on Song Mian’s private jet.

It would be a flight of ten odd hours. There was also more than ten hours of jet lag between the two countries. They planned to board the flight in the afternoon. It would be night time when they disembarked. They could sleep once they got home.

“In the morning,” He Wei also knew when their return flight would be. “It’s probably about compensating you over The Star of Peace.”

“It’s my loss if I don’t take it,” Yun Xiangxiang’s eyes curved when she smiled.

She did say that she would give it to Austin unconditionally. Even if Austin didn’t say anything, she wouldn’t be unhappy.

However, if Austin wanted to compensate her, there was no reason for her to reject the goodie.

She would be righteous if the situations called for it. She would think for herself when it was time to do so. She was still a pauper.

However, Yun Xiangxiang didn’t expect Austin’s compensation package to be so enormous.

Yun Xiangxiang was slightly embarrassed when she saw the contract in front of her, “Mr. Austin, if it’s possible, I would actually prefer it if you just give me a piece of check.”

“This is the result of the discussion among our whole company’s top executives,” said Austin smilingly. “We are showing our gratitude to you with the highest sincerity we can muster. Thank you for helping us get through this crisis.”

Yun Xiangxiang looked at He Wei. Austin was actually giving her two percent of MonRoe’s share!

That meant after signing this contract, she could get MonRoe’s dividend annually starting this year.

Even though it was impossible for her to have any major power by having two percent of shares, it was a stream of continuous income.

She would have an extra income every year unless MonRoe recorded a loss, or if MonRoe went into bankruptcy.

“Just sign it. You won’t need to worry about starvation anymore,” He Wei said to Yun Xiangxing humorously.

She wouldn’t hold back since even He Wei had asked her to sign.

Austin presented another contract to her after she signed the first one, “This is also the company’s decision.

Yun Xiangxiang was shocked after she flipped it open. It was an extra-long period contract for the spot of global ambassador.

The duration would see its end along with Yun Xiangxiang’s retirement from the entertainment industry.

That meant MonRoe wouldn’t consider having anyone else as its ambassador as long as Yun Xiangxiang was an actress and stayed in the entertainment industry.

MonRoe only had two product lines: jewelry and wristwatches. Since there was still half a year before the contract with the actor who was the spokesperson for the wristwatch expired, that part of the contract would only come into effect starting from the second half of the year.

The endorsement fee wasn’t a set amount though. It would fluctuate with Yun Xiangxiang’s market value. The fluctuation would depend on Yun Xiangxiang’s ability.

Yun Xiangxiang had never heard of this kind of contract before, “Mr. Austin. I feel that this is a very hasty decision.”

“All of us believe that your future is immeasurable,” Austin was very relaxed. “This contract benefits both of us.”

It could be said that they were investing in Yun Xiangxiang. If they locked Yun Xiangxiang down now, Yun Xiangxiang would work with MonRoe for life in the field of jewelry and wristwatches.

The benefit would increase along with Yun Xiangxiang’s influence.

Yun Xiangxiang held the pen. What she saw first wasn’t pride or benefit. It was responsibility and trust.

After a brief moment of silence, she signed her name stroke by stroke, “Mr. Austin, I will work even harder.”

Austin took a gift box from his assistant after he accepted the contract, “I apologize for possibly not being able to attend your coming-of-age ceremony. I hope that you can accept this gift of mine.”

She had signed the contracts for the shares and lifelong contract. Rejecting a birthday gift now would seem pretentious. Yun Xiangxiang graciously accepted it, “Thank you.”

Austin wanted to treat Yun Xiangxiang to a meal after they finished talking about business. Yun Xiangxiang declined it politely. She didn’t want to hold him up, and they needed to go back to their country.

Yun Xiangxiang opened the birthday gift Austin gave her after she got into the car. The brilliant jewelry shone so much, her eyes hurt.

It was as she thought. Austin gave her the set of Angel jewelry that she wore during the launch conference to her.

“You aren’t happy even after you got this treasure?” He Wei was amused when he saw Yun Xiangxiang being so down.

“I just think that I shouldn’t receive anything if I didn’t work for it,” Yun Xiangxiang sighed and closed the box.

“You really won’t feel secure if the result isn’t borne from your sweat and blood,” He Wei couldn’t understand how Yun Xiangxiang cultivated this habit. “You have to know that this thing was gained by risking your life.”

She almost lost her life. Even though she didn’t work for it, it didn’t come easily either.

If it was anyone else, they probably wouldn’t be able to live to enjoy it.

“I feel a bit more secure now that you said it, Brother Wei,” Yun Xiangxiang would feel more justified if she recalled the thrill of that night more.

“There’s another piece of news. “Justice and Selflessness” is now off screen. Its total box office is four hundred and eighty million yuan,” He Wei looked at Yun Xiangxiang while he said that.

“Director Lin Jialiang is probably elated, right?” Yun Xiangxiang smiled brightly.

Four hundred and eighty million wasn’t low. It naturally couldn’t be compared to her previous films’ box office.

Hong Kong films have been in a decline in recent years. Their box office generally wasn’t high in the mainland.
