Chapter 3

And so, every time her husband went on a business trip, the original Ruan Xia dropped off her son at her parents’ home the next day and had them take care of her son. Thus, she would be free to do whatever she wanted. When her husband was about to come back, she would go pick up her son. The original Ruan Xia didn’t have a good relationship with her husband or son, but she didn’t care. She viewed herself as the most important person and didn’t care about anyone else. And so, although Father Ruan and Mother Ruan had tried to persuade her countless times, she never considered repairing her relationship with her husband.

If she had to speak the truth and ignored what happened to the original Ruan Xia later on, she would have to say that original Ruan Xia’s life was truly very…… awesome.

Because the original Ruan Xia didn’t care about anyone else, even at the end, her feelings had never been hurt.

Ruan Xia answered Mother Ruan, “En, I know. That’s why I’m going to take Little Wang to City A. Mom, I’m going to end the call here. Remember to have extra food for lunch, I’ll be over there soon to eat there too.”

Hearing these words, Mother Ruan felt even happier.

It had been a long time since her daughter had sat down with them to eat a meal. Mother Ruan immediately agreed. After hanging up the phone, she told her husband, “Quickly, go out and buy some food. Xiaxia said she’s going to come back and eat lunch with us.”

Father Ruan initially thought he must have hallucinated those words. It was only when his wife pretended she was going to smack him that he returned to his senses. He immediately smiled and answered, “Okay! Xiaxia loves to eat my braised fish the most! I’ll go to the market now to buy the ingredients!”

  —

Although Ruan Xia used to have ordinary looks, she chased after beauty like a dog chasing after a bone. And so, even though she was born with an ordinary appearance, she still did her best to bring out her face’s best qualities with makeup. After a few years of experience, her ability to put on makeup was at a professional level.

Even without makeup, the original Ruan Xia’s face was breathtaking. Sitting at the vanity table, Ruan Xia looked at the table that was covered in skincare products and makeup. She calmed herself down and started applying the makeup.

Looking at this body’s face, Ruan Xia thought of the last line of a poem: beautiful whether plainly dress or richly adorn.

Over ten minutes later, Ruan Xia looked at herself in the mirror and felt very satisfied.

No matter how attractive a beauty naturally was, there was still a difference between having and not having makeup on. After she finished applying makeup, it raised up her overall beauty by several points.

Ruan Xia thought over the novel’s plot. The original Ruan Xia didn’t have any feelings for her husband and child. There was no need to think an outsider like herself would feel anything either.

Right now, she had no interest in turning over a new leaf by becoming a good mother or wife.

However, she had transmigrated here and became the novel’s Ruan Xia. Since she knew the plot, she definitely had to hasten towards things that would be most beneficial to her and avoid doing anything that would harm her.

In the novel, Mr. Song had an accident while he was away from home.

This man had died in the novel without even appearing once. His death was really too dramatic and awkward.

Anyways, he was her husband in name right now. After assessing her options based on her knowledge of the plot, she decided that it would be most optimal for her if he didn’t die.

“Hmm, saving a person’s life gets your more karma points that building a seven-floor pagoda,” murmured Ruan Xia to herself, “Mr. Song, I’ll help you out. But as for whether you’ll be able to live, that will depend on yourself.”

  —

In a distant city, Mr. Song sneezed.

The assistant at his side quickly said, “Sir, do you want me to raise the temperature on the AC?”

Mr. Song’s expression remained unchanged as he turned a page in the file. In a deep voice, he answered, “Not necessary.”

Chapter 4 – As for what she would do in the future, she would decide later after the upcoming disaster was averted. (1)

Although Mr. Song didn’t have any feelings towards the original Ruan Xia, he was never stingy. At the very least, when it came to materistalic things and creature comforts, he never treated her unfairly. He didn’t have any opinions about the original Ruan Xia’s extravagant lifestyle either.

Ruan Xia had gotten her driver’s license during college. Later, she brought a used car. Although she wasn’t as skilled as an experienced driver, she had no problem driving on the road. The original Ruan Xia owned a BMW X5. As Ruan Xia sat down in the car, she guessed that this car model was the best available one. A new car was probably more than 100,000 yuan higher than a used car. Sure enough, this car was very different from her old one.

On her drive to the Ruan’s, she used the time to think about the novel characters’ relationships.

The author hadn’t written much about Mr. Song in the novel, but there was enough written for her to know that he was a successful person. Mr. Song’s parents had died when he was young. He didn’t have many relatives left.

Actually, in the novel, after he had died, the original Ruan Xia had inherited everything and should have had enough money for the rest of her life. However, after Mr. Song had died, a crisis erupted in his company, and the company went into debt. The original Ruan Xia didn’t know how to manage a business at all. She went through half a year of struggling, but she didn’t have the power to reverse her desperate situation. By the end, the mother and child were left with two houses and a car.

From the viewpoint of Ruan Xia, who had been struggling to remain above the poverty line before she transmigrated, having two houses should have been enough for the mother and son to live quite well if they weren’t wasteful. After all, the cost of houses wasn’t low. If they rented out one of those houses, they would have enough to cover their living expenses.

But, what kind of person was the original Ruan Xia? She was a femme fatale type. With her beauty and ambition, she wouldn’t be happy only having those two houses. And so, she wanted to find another ATM. When she went traveling to relieve her boredom, she met a widower, who fell in love with her at first sight. She stoked the flames, and the two of them seemingly just clicked. They started dating. The man did have sincere feelings for the original Ruan Xia and said he wanted to marry her. At this point, the original Ruan Xia reached her goal. Although her first husband had died, she found another ATM.

The original Ruan Xia could have been forthcoming with that man, but she wasn’t. She even thought her son would be a hindrance. She wouldn’t let anyone ruin her plan and her lifestyle, including her son. Thus, she did something awful. She had a foreigner college classmate, who hadn’t gotten pregnant two years into her marriage. It was discovered that the man was infertile. So, the original Ruan Xia contacted her college classmate and said she would give her son to her. But, there was a condition. She didn’t want her son looking for her in the future. This suited her classmate perfectly, and she immediately agreed.

Father Ruan and Mother Ruan were very fond of their grandson, so the original Ruan Xia made up an excuse. She told them that Mr. Song had a younger sister that was living abroad. So that the child could grow up in the best environment, she was sending him abroad to live with his aunt.

At first, Father Ruan and Mother Ruan believed the original Ruan Xia’s lie. However, as more time went on, they started to suspect. If their grandson had really gone abroad, would he have really broken off contact with his grandparents and even his mother?

But, even if they stopped believing their daughter, there was nothing they could do. The original Ruan Xia ignored them most of the time.

The original Ruan Xia was someone that had easily give away her son for her own convenience. Saying she was devoid of a conscience was an understatement. Ruan Xia thought; no other individual would do something like this. There was a moral baseline, and the original Ruan Xia had gone past it.

Chapter 5 – As for what she would do in the future, she would decide later after the upcoming disaster was averted. (2)

Ruan Xia arrived at a mid-ranged price neighborhood. The original Ruan Xia’s parents lived here. She had arranged for her parents to live here after she got married. Of course, the house was under her name. After Ruan Xia parked the car, she relied on the original body’s memory and entered the house where she was warmly greeted.

It was a hot day, so Mother Ruan had cut watermelon slices and prepared fruit juices. As for Father Ruan, he was bustling about in the kitchen. From time to time, he would come out to chat with his daughter. In Ruan Xia’s opinion, the original Ruan Xia’s parents were pretty good. Not all parents had the ability to give their children the very best possible living environment, but her parents had raised her in adulthood, provided for her schooling, and provided her everything they could that was within the scope of their abilities.

When Ruan Xia saw the novel’s legendary villain, Song Shuyan, she secretly made a decision. She had become the novel’s Ruan Xia, the villain’s mother. If Mr. Song couldn’t escape the catastrophe that would take his life, she would keep this child by her side and raise him to adulthood.

(T/N: Little Wang is the son’s nickname. His full name is Song Shuyan.)

Song Shuyan was three-year-old right now, the cutest age.

A child was naturally fond of and dependent on his mother. Even if the original Ruan Xia normally didn’t care much about him, he still liked his mother. He was wearing a sleeveless top and shorts and sitting on the play mat. Although he was playing with toys, he kept glancing over to look at Ruan Xia.

He was a bit overweight from overly doting grandparents, but he was blessed with his parents’ genes. He was a cute child. Looking at his small, slender, white arms that resembled lotus roots, Ruan Xia was overwhelmed by cuteness. How could the original Ruan Xia have bear to give away her son?

Actually, before Ruan Xia woke up in the novel, she had a strange dream. The dream’s protagonist was original Ruan Xia.

In the dream, the original Ruan Xia had become someone else. She was very satisfied with the change and had no intention of coming back here.

Ruan Xia glanced at the chubby child. By chance, he was peeking at her too.

Feeling somewhat shy and embarrassed, the chubby child quickly lowered his head and went back to playing with his toys.

Although she had apprehensions about getting married and raising a child before transmigrating here, she liked children, especially chubby ones. Ruan Xia couldn’t resist. She waved her hand at him. “Little Wang, come here.”

In front of his mother, the chubby child had no principles. He dropped his toys and toddled over like a baby penguin.

He shot himself into Ruan Xia’s arms like a projectile, and she easily hugged this heavy life responsibility.

The mother and child pair remained in this sweet, intimate scene for a while.

Father Ruan and Mother Ruan were very gratified to see this sight. In the past, they felt their daughter was too cold to their grandson. Fortunately, young children were naturally fond of their mothers and didn’t have good long-term memories.

Now that Ruan Xia took the initiative to be close to him by hugging him, the chubby child’s response to his mother’s overture was the same as all young children, super sticky. When Ruan Xia went to the bathroom later, he would want to stay guarding outside by the door. If she took slightly too long, he would start knocking on the door.

Looking at the chubby child, who was hugging her, Ruan Xia really couldn’t imagine him growing up to be the novel’s villain in the future.

Did this chubby child have a poor long term memory?

The original Ruan Xia had treated him with indifference. On a normal day, she didn’t pay attention to him at all. If she wasn’t handing him off to the nanny, she was dropping him at her parent’s home. If this happened to other children, there would definitely be an awkward period to get past before her friendly overture was accepted. However, there was no sign of negative feelings from him.

Chapter 6 – As for what she would do in the future, she would decide later after the upcoming disaster was averted. (3)

However, she could see that this kid still had a pretty good personality. He was lively and extroverted. His personality was super cute.

Ruan Xia didn’t know that this was all thanks to Father Ruan and Mother Ruan whitewashing her character.

The chubby kid started nursery school last year. On a normal day, he rarely had any interactions with his mother. On holidays, his mom would drop him off at his grandparents’ home. Like other neglected children, he would ask his grandparents if his mom didn’t like him. Why didn’t his mom want to spend time with him? Why didn’t she miss him? Did she not care about him at all……

During those times, Father Ruan and Mother Ruan would tell him that just like how his dad had to go to work, his mom had her own things she needed to do. Otherwise, his parents wouldn’t be able to raise him.

It was easy to deceive young children. He had immediately believe in this explanation, especially because his friends at nursery school also had parents that were very busy with work.

Dad was busy with his work, mom was also busy with her work. It was all for his sake.

Near the end of the visit, Ruan Xia came to the conclusion that it was really comfortable staying here. She didn’t understand why the original Ruan Xia’s was so opposed to going over to her parents’ home.

It had to be said that she wasn’t treated so highly by her own parents.

Sure enough, Father Ruan was a good man. He kept the house clean and was a skillful cook. He knew how to make everything. When Ruan Xia mentioned offhand that she was going to by a cake on the way home, Father Ruan immediately started baking. Before long, he had finished baking cookies as well as cupcakes.

It could be said that in this family, Ruan Xia only need to lie down and tilt her head up to be fed.

While Father Ruan was busy in the kitchen, Mother Ruan sat on the sofa watching TV with Ruan Xia.

A chubby kid on her lap, sliced fruit on the coffee table, and drool worthy smells coming out of the kitchen ……

Ruan Xia almost didn’t want to leave.

As Mother Ruan fed her grandson fruit, she asked, “You’re going to City A tomorrow?”

“En.” Ruan Xia nodded. Actually, she didn’t know if she could prevent the upcoming disaster. “Little Wang’s dad has been in City A for almost half a month. He called me a few days ago to say that he missed Little Wang. Anyways, I’m not busy so I might as well pay a visit to City A and walk around there.”

“That’s the spirit.” Mother Ruan glanced at her son before continuing, “Right now, Little Wang isn’t old enough to know any better. Once Little Wang is older, if you don’t have a good relationship with your husband by then, the person that will suffer the most will be your son. Xiaxia, just get along with son-in-law. Even though he’s older than you, he’s a successful and good person. When all is said, you and Little Wang depend on him.”

Ruan Xia hadn’t seen Mr. Song yet. There wasn’t much information about this person in the original Ruan Xia’s memories either. There was even less information about him in the novel. Up to now, she hadn’t figured this person out yet.

As for what she would do in the future, she would decide later after the upcoming disaster was averted.

  —

Later that afternoon, Father Ruan and Mother Ruan went out to buy watermelon while Ruan Xia and the chubby kid stayed on the sofa to watch TV. Halfway through the show they were watching, the chubby kid tugged her towards the kitchen.

Ruan Xia felt confused. The chubby kid’s strength wasn’t small either. “Little Wang, are you hungry?”

Little Wang didn’t say anything. He continued persistently pulling her to the kitchen.

The chubby kid led her to a large rice container in the kitchen. He easily took off the container’s cover and said to Ruan Xia, “Mom, you don’t need to keep working in the future. Look, there’s so much rice here. It’s more than enough. I’ll just eat less!”
