Chapter 144 - Snow Sealing the Mountain

In Lecter City, Lecter stood on top of the administrative building as he observed the snowfall.

His subconscious mind was floating in the clouds.

A sudden thought came to his mind which caused him to blurt out, “This is bad. If this is really the case, we are doomed!”

Rowe and Romon, who were standing near Lecter, immediately rushed over when they heard him.

Hearing Lecter’s outburst, they urgently questioned him.

“What’s wrong? What’s wrong? Why are we doomed?”

The expression on Lecter’s face was extremely horrified.

Turning his head to look at Rowe and Romon, Lecter said, “If this heavy snow keeps falling, I’m afraid we’ll encounter a situation where the mountain will be sealed by heavy snow.”

“Sealed by heavy snow? What will happen if the mountain is sealed by heavy snow?” Rowe asked.

With a terrified expression, Lecter explained, “If the mountain is sealed by heavy snow, Sifusco’s vanguard team will probably all die on Broken Cliff Mountain!”

Romon asked, “Does this mean they can only wait for death?”

Lecter nodded in reply. Looking at Romon gravely, he continued to speak.

“If they reached the Empire’s defense point on the top of Broken Cliff Mountain before the heavy snow sealed off the mountain, then I’m afraid they will be in deep trouble!

“We can only pray that they haven’t reached the defense point yet!”

When Rowe heard this, he hurriedly opened his mouth to speak.

“Why didn’t you tell us this before the expedition?”

Seeing Rowe begin to question him, Lecter lowered his head in shame.

“I didn’t expect such heavy snow to fall within these few days. When they left, the snow wasn’t falling that heavily!

“Also, I didn’t know that the snow that has been falling these past few days had no intention of ending!”

Upon hearing this, Rowe stated, “I don’t want all three defensive points of the Empire’s northern front to be taken down. I only hope that Sifusco can safely bring the vanguard squad back!”

Romon then raised his head to look at the snowflakes falling outside the window. Letting out a long sigh, he muttered, “I really hope that nothing has happened yet.”

  …

On top of Broken Cliff Mountain, in front of the defense tower of the northern front of the empire.

The many soldiers of the vanguard team were making their way back down towards the bottom of the mountain.

Sifusco seemed a little nervous as he led all the soldiers through the process of the evacuation.

However, one of the soldiers who was walking in front exclaimed, “Captain! This is not good! Our way down the mountain has been completely covered in snow!”

  Sifusco immediately ran forward.

He saw that halfway up the route of the mountain that they had just gone up was now covered with a thick layer of snow.

In the snow, he could vaguely see a few trees that had been knocked down and flattened, as well as a few rocks that had been exposed.

The soldiers at the front line moved to dig up the snow, but they were suddenly stopped by Sifusco.

“Don’t dig! Don’t touch the snow!”

Before he could finish his sentence, one of the soldiers touched the weakest part of the snow pile.

In the blink of an eye, the huge rock above the pile of snow suddenly had nothing holding it back, which caused it to hurtle towards the soldier.

Having no time to dodge, the soldier was smashed by the huge rock into a bloody pulp.

Sifusco was standing not too far away and saw what happened before his very eyes.

The bloody pulp of the corpse only lasted for a moment before it was quickly covered by the heavy snow.

The path down the mountain was now completely blocked by the huge rock.

When the rest of the vanguard team saw this scene, their faces were filled with terror.

“A living person died just like that?” Exclaimed one of the soldiers in horror.

The rest of the team was also stunned by the scene that they had just witnessed.

They did not dare to move closer to the direction of the snow.

In the aftermath of what he had just seen, Sifusco immediately gave orders to everyone.

“Everyone, listen to my command and retreat to the sentry tower immediately! Do not come out without my instructions until it reaches a critical point!”

Then, under Sifusco’s command, everyone headed towards the sentry tower.

After making sure that everyone had arrived at the sentry tower, Sifusco called the soldier who had just discovered the grain.

Sifusco commanded, “Take several people with you and divide the grain!”

  “Yes!”

The soldier gathered a few soldiers together and began to divide the grain.

After some time, Sifusco discovered that once the apparently abundant grain here had been divided into eight hundred portions, the portion each person received would be very little.

Seeing this, Sifusco could not help but suck in a breath of cold air.

Sifusco studied the grain in his hands as he did several calculations in his mind, before coming to a conclusion.

If everyone ate these rations carefully, at most, they could only last for a week.

After a week, their survival would be completely uncertain.

By the time the soldiers had finished distributing the rations, a few soldiers had already gone into a state of panic.

The winter in the northwest was already very cold, so it was not surprising that the high mountains in the northwest were even more so.

Sifusco saw the frantic soldiers and tried to calm them down.

“Please calm down, everyone! We can definitely get out of here!

“I firmly believe that the leaders of the Lieluo Army have noticed our current situation! I’m sure they will rush over to save us!”

After Sifusco had finished speaking, he gathered a few of his trusted soldiers.

Then, Sifusco led them out of the sentry tower and began to carefully observe the condition of the layer of snow.

A crowd had come to the snow-covered area earlier, so Sifusco took the lead and walked in that direction.

He made his way there, being very careful in his actions.

The other soldiers stood by the side, breaking out into a cold sweat as they observed him.

On his part, Sifusco knew that he absolutely could not afford to die.

Right now, he was everyone’s spiritual pillar. If he fell, everyone here would fall apart.

Although Sifusco was powerful, he was still mortal.

How could he resolve this difficult situation easily?

After a thorough investigation, Sifusco came to a conclusion.

Then, he announced to the soldiers beside him, “Looking at the current situation, it looks like it’ll be impossible for us to get out in a week!”
